What Should Be Paid Attention to when Selecting the Parting Surface in the Design and Processing of General Automobile Molds?

In order to remove the product from the mold cavity, the mold must be divided into two parts: the core and the cavity. The interface between them is called the parting line. The location of the parting line and the rationality of the design of its appearance shape are directly related to the complexity of the automotive mold processing, the quality of the mold parts, the working condition of the mold, and the convenience of operation. Therefore, we can say that the design of the parting line is an important step in the design and processing of automotive molds.

The basic principles for selecting the design of automotive molds are as follows:

1. Ensure product quality: For example, when a product requires coaxiality, the cavity can be placed on the same side of the mold to prevent misalignment.

2. Facilitate product demolding: The parting line should allow the product to stay on the moving mold. Since the ejection mechanism is generally set on the moving mold side, placing the core on the moving mold side will cause the product to shrink onto the core after cooling, which is beneficial for demolding.

3. Ensure the required appearance of the product: For example, for parts with a rounded arc, in order to ensure that the parting line does not affect the appearance of the part at the arc, the parting line should be set at the top of the arc so that the burrs are generated on the cross section of the product, which can be removed without damaging the appearance of the product.

4. Facilitate lateral core pulling: When the product requires side concavities or side holes, the lateral slider core should be placed on the moving mold side to simplify the structure of the mold. For products with a larger projected area that also require lateral core pulling, the larger parting line should be set perpendicular to the direction of mold closing, since the locking force during lateral slider core pulling is relatively weak.

Generally, the parting line of automotive mold design and processing can be a plane, curved surface, or step surface, and can be perpendicular or parallel to the opening direction.

In summary, the overall principle of selecting the parting line in automotive mold design and processing is to ensure the quality of the plastic part, facilitate product demolding, simplify the mold structure, meet customer needs, design satisfactory molds for customers, manufacture high-quality molds, and produce quality products.
