What Are the Classifications of Plastic Injection Mold Tooling?

Single-piece plastic injection mold tooling 


When a single-piece plastic injection mold tooling is opened, the movable mold and fixed mold are separated and then the plastic part is taken out. This is called a single-piece mold, also known as a two-plate mold.


It is a very simple and fundamental plastic injection mold tooling. It can be designed as a single-cavity or multi-cavity injection mold according to requirements. It is widely used in injection molding.


Double-parting surface plastic injection mold tooling


The double-parting surface external injection mold has two parting surfaces. Compared with the single-piece external injection mold, the double-parting surface injection mold adds a center plate (also called an automatic gate board) that can be partially moved, and is equipped with gate, runner and other components and the components required for the fixed mold, so it is also called a three-plate (movable plate, center plate, fixed plate) injection mold, and is commonly used for sampling.


When the single or multi-cavity injection mold is opened, the center plate moves a certain distance away from the fixed plate on the fixed column guide post, and then the injection system bone is removed between the two molds. The two-component molding mold has a complex structure, high manufacturing cost, and difficult part processing, and is generally not used for molding large or extra-large plastic products.


The injection molding with a side separation and core pulling organization is that when the plastic parts have side holes or bottom cuts, it is necessary to form a core or slide that can move laterally. After the injection molding is completed, the movable mold is first moved down a certain distance, and then the inclined part of the bending pin fixed on the fixed mold forces the slide to move outward. The push rod of the demolding structure pushes the push plate to make the plastic part self-form the core.

Because of some special structures of plastic parts, it is necessary to set movable mold parts, such as active punch, movable mold, movable plug-in, movable thread core or ring, etc. When demolding, the mold and the plastic part can be released together and then separated from the plastic part.

When automatic demolding is required, the rotatable screw core or ring can be placed on the mold through the opening action of the mold or the rotating mechanism of the injection molding machine, or a special transmission device can be set to drive the screw core or ring to rotate and then release the plastic part.


The non-active injection molding method refers to a method of insulation and heating using a pair of active channels, and the plastic between the cavities of the injection molding machine nozzle is kept in a molten state, and then the mold is taken out when the mold is not tilted. The former is called insulated runner injection mold, and the latter is called hot runner injection mold.


Right-angle plastic injection mold tooling


The right-angle injection mold is only suitable for corner-type injection molding machines. Unlike other injection molds, the feeding direction is perpendicular to the direction of opening and closing the mold. Its main flow path is located on both sides of the moving and fixed mold parting surface, and its cross-sectional area is usually stable, which is different from other molds used in injection molding machines.


The end of the main flow path avoids the injection molding machine. The nozzle and the entrance end of the main flow path are worn and deformed, and replaceable active channel insertions can be provided. The ejection mechanism of the fixed mold on most ejection molds is installed on the side surface of the movable mold, which is conducive to the operation of the ejection device in the opening and closing mold system.


In actual production, because some plastic parts are limited by the shape, it is best to place the plastic parts on the side surface of the fixed mold so that the plastic parts can be taken out of the mold, and it is necessary to provide ejection organization on one side of the fixed mold.
